No-neutral Zigbee switches for Australian homes

Many Australian homes, especially those wired before the 2000s, have no neutral conductor at the light switch. That rules out most smart switches, which need a neutral to power their radio. The devices below are listed by their makers as working without one.

No-neutral devices draw a small current through the light itself to stay powered. Makers usually state a minimum load (often 3–5 W), and some LED lamps flicker or glow faintly below it. Check the minimum load on each device page and ask your electrician whether your lighting circuit suits it.

Zigbee no-neutral devices are usually "end devices": they do not repeat the Zigbee signal, so you still need mains-powered Zigbee routers elsewhere in the house for a healthy mesh.

Hard-wired devices must be installed by a licensed electrician.
